Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
[Long and good to listen as you go as it is a track breakdown (ish) too - those of a lazy disposition wanting the crux of my analysis straight away skip to the last two paragraphs]
One of the most tantalising advertising campaigns of recent times was executed to pin point precision by a couple of robots whose new album is almost unarguably the most anticipated in 10 years. Employing festival...

Frank Turner @ The Forum, 25/4/2013
It is impossible to go to a Frank Turner show and get through without breaking a sweat, your voice and any negative vibes you may have. Supported by Larry and his Flask, an American punk collective with a cello, the crowd was already in a frenzy half an hour before the man of the hour made his way to the stage. A sing-a-long to Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark a fitting moment before...

Frank Turner - Tape Deck Heart
Anticipation and apprehension was high for this record in Sub4Love headquarters. Fans of FTHC may notice that we are indeed named after one of his songs so what better way to properly relaunch than with an album review, gig review, and other assorted Frank based paraphernalia.
Four Simple Words was debuted at Wembley Arena last year, since then few songs have seen the light until the release of...

In short The Next Day is awesome. Got a lot on so no review yet but looking forward to writing it and you reading it. The amount of genius on show is astounding. Well… It is Bowie!
Anyone heard the new Bowie yet? What do we think? I’ll be listening on my way to work tomorrow. Review later I the week.
Hmmm it would seem the iPhone demons have decided I shall post things in the wrong place again. For more of this nonsense find my personal blog. In the meantime, normal service should resume shortly.

Artists and respect
The furore over Justin Bieber’s late appearances on this tour led me to think yet again about artists and respect. It is a topic raised by Frank Turner at last year’s T in the Park when he was following Nicki Minaj who refused to go on stage for 40 minutes after her allotted time due to long grass outside her trailer. Further famous tardy appearances in recent years have come from...

HOLY FFFFFFFFFIRE!!!! →
Foals live streaming 3 plays of their new album Holy Fire by way of a video watching the vinyl play and the sound from the speakers attached. It works well to let you here the album clearly while not allowing you to steal it. Respect. First time I’ve seen it done like this.
Get involved. Three plays. That’s it. At time of posting (20.40 GMT) Inhaler had just finished and the first...

Biffy Clyro - Opposites
They said back in 2010/2011 that guitar music had reached the end of its course for the time being. Some said it was dead but that is a little extreme. Guitar music is a universal state of musical currency. It coincided with the rise of EDM in all it’s forms and 2011 was a good year. Then it dipped and we were left with what happened in 2012. In my view a year of little to get truly excited...

So…. Who noticed I had meant for that Everything Everything post to be on Sub4Love… Bugger.
"Downloadable music is just a fad"
guardianmusic:
Read an excellent blog from August 2012 by Philip Beeching, who worked for HMV for 25 years and was once told the above by the store’s then MD. CS
Absolutely brilliant blog on HMV summing up exactly why they failed. It was not digital itself but poor management and failure to respond.

HMV facing administration →
This is devastating news to any music or film fan. The last bastion of record stores faces administration this week. Look out this week for the day the music (store) died.

So we're back!
Yea yea, more rebirths than Westlife farewell tours and Sugababe members but this one is a bit different. There is not grand plan, not set ambition other than to post more. There are ideas but basically it will come as it comes. Informal, enjoyable, interactive.
Our team are at a graduation today so no other posts will appear until at least tomorrow if not the weekend but posts will come as music...

BBC 6Music Greatest Song of its Lifetime →
As part of their 10th anniversary year celebrations 6Music compiled what they viewed as the greatest songs of their lifespan having begun life in March 2002. It makes for interesting reading and no doubt they are all corkers but of course you can think of better or more-suitable-for-them entries (e.g. Tighten Up instead of Lonely Boy by The Black Keys) but this will always happen.
They are now...
