Have you listened to Air’s wonderful soundtrack to Georges Melies’ masterpiece “Le Voyage dans la Lune” yet?

Every track on the album is wonderful on its own, but pieced together with the original film, it becomes something else. 

This track is the most “single worthy” if that is a musical term I can use…

Single worthy indeed. I haven’t heard the album yet myself (I have a rather large pile to get through thanks to RSD!) But just thought I’d barge in to mention this is the same band who brought us the track recently used on the Lynx ads ‘Sexy Boy’

The Temper Trap - Rabbit Hole

Australian falsetto-fronted rock group The Temper Trap made a critically acclaimed and pretty commercially successful impact on the music scene in 2009. They’ve finally made their triumphant return with this very Temper-Trappy debut song from their follow up album, interestingly ALSO titled “The Temper Trap”.

I feel this description doesn’t say The Temper Trap enough so: The Temper Trap.

Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know feat. Kimbra

Chart music in the UK is an abysmal swamp of “RnB pop” where the only inspiration for lyrics seem to come from “babies in the club”.

So it took me by surprise that the charts can be so different in other countries, were song sales often are related to song quality. This fine, fine, simple, catchy indie song is currently Number 1 in Australia and I was humming it after only hearing it once.

fun. - We Are Young ft. Janelle Monae

I admit it. I would not have listened to this song had I not seen “ft. Janelle Monae”. She is, after all, my musical idol/pin-up/inspiration/whatever. But her contribution to this song is song is very subtle (at least vocally) and rightfully so.

Ignore the odd video - the song is wonderful and epic and sung beautifully (with even a bit of ‘artistic’ auto-tune).

Scissor Sisters cover Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out.” Love the original, love the cover. Awesome song, and a great concept for a new take on it.

Last year, both Franz Ferdinand and Scissor Sisters put on terrific shows at Glastonbury, both were possibly my favourite acts. So what’ll be mine this year?
